Chat Consultation with a Certified Medical Doctor

We understand that it’s sometimes not easy to talk about sexual health issues with your family and friends, and it may be hard to find a female/male doctor that you are comfortable opening up to. There are many obstacles that make us brush signs and symptoms aside.

Here at Shy, we want to promote a help-seeking culture about sexual health problems so that our readers can seek help and treatment early from medical professionals. Perhaps you may find that your fears are unfounded after all!

This is why we teamed up with ManaDr, a MOH trusted Tele-health Consultation App where you can chat with a doctor via text, just like you would in a physical family clinic, at a small cost of about $10. We take no commission and they give a friendly discount to our youth readers. Simple.

How to Book a Consultation Step-by-Step:

After downloading the ManaDr App

  1. Create your profile

    • You will be required to add in your card details, however, charges will be made clear before you have to pay. Eg. For prescriptions, you can accept or choose to decline it if you feel like it is too expensive.

  2. Scroll “Featured partners” and click on the RED “Shy” card. This is important because you will be given a discounted price as a Shy reader.

  3. Click on your preferred doctor. There is one female and one male for you to select who you are more comfortable with.

  4. Fill in the booking form, provide your reason for consultation and wait for your advice from the doctor.

  5. You will get a notification on your phone when the doctor accepts your chat and that’s when the session begins. Have your NRIC ready at the start of the consultation in case verification of identity is needed. (It works just like you’re texting on WhatsApp, but on the ManaDr app!)

FAQ

1. What if my affected area is at my genitals and I am uncomfortable showing it via a photo?

  • This depends on the severity of the condition and the patients' wishes. The patient can then choose to see the doctor in a clinic, switch to a video call instead of describe the condition.

2. What are the age restrictions for the consultation?

  • A person below the age of 16 seeking Chat Consult or Video Consult must be accompanied by an adult (parent/guardian) during the video consultation at all times. Such minor must also be registered under his/her parent’s/guardian’s MaNaDr account under "Family & Friends" prior to commencement of Chat Consult or Video Consult.

3. Is the chat consultation a live session where both parties have to be online throughout or is it like normal text messaging where I can reply even after exiting the app?

  • Think your normal messaging app eg. WhatsApp, Telegram. It’s the same thing! The session only cuts off when the doctor ends the consultation on their side.

4. What happens if the doctor determines my condition is not suitable for Chat Consult or Video Consult?

  • The doctor will inform you accordingly and advise you to seek the appropriate follow-up actions. These actions may include:

  • Going to a general practitioner for a physical consultation

  • Book an online appointment using MaNaDr for an in-person physical consultation

  • Going to the Accident & Emergency department of your nearest hospital
